The crabbing has been terrific since the commercial season closed in August with lots of folks getting what they want in less than an hour. Of course some people don’t stop till they get their limit of 36 or more in a couple hours, more or less. Well the 7th Annual Jetty Fishery Crab Derby has come and gone. A group of Portland filmmakers visited the Jetty Fishery and shot this telling short film about crabbing on the Oregon Coast. Presented and written by filmmakers from the Art Institute of Portland’s 2008 spring term class. Produced by Johnny Le and Courtney Hermann and directed by Karlyn Gibson. In 2008, “Jetty” won Best Original Score from the International Documentary Challenge at Hot Docs in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and was an Official Selection at both the Dokufest in Prizren, Kosova and Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, Montana.

After a four-year hiatus, the Nehalem Bay Crab Derby is back and promises to be bigger and better than ever. The Nehalem Bay Crab Derby has become one of the premier charity events on the Oregon Coast and The Jetty Fishery is more than happy to be sponsoring the event this year.
