NEHALEM BAY, OREGON

Jetty Fishery regretfully announces that preliminary planning for the 7^th annual Jetty Fishery /Nehalem Bay Crab Derby Benefit has been set aside, and the Derby is effectively cancelled.

A spokesperson for the event host, Jetty Fishery, stated that the tremendous amount of logistical preparation and the events underestimated popularity growth combined with the critical lack of volunteer staffing, to force the decision. They further stated that although the event had far out-preformed the initial planning in 2001, it was unanimously decided that a more pointed and effective means could be directed to help the designated charities of the annual derby, which were the Rinehart Clinic of Wheeler, Or. And the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of the North Coast in Astoria, Or.

"We certainly will miss the fun, and festive atmosphere, but not the intensive 12 month long preparation for the 2 day activity" said spokesperson. However they did allow room for a "miraculous Derby savior" who would offer their services for undertaking a possible resurrection of the event.

The dates for the cancelled Derby had been June 7-8, 2008. All previously made reservations placed with Jetty Fishery may be now cancelled without penalty.
